Bridie Stewart
I am a registered psychologist with AHPRA and a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS). I also hold a counselling psychology endorsement and membership with the APS College of Counselling Psychologists.
With over a decade of experience in mental health, I've worked in community services (homelessness, drug and alcohol issues, eating disorders), and hospital in-patient mental health hospital services. I now split my time between private practice and a hospital-based PTSD treatment program for first responders and military/ex-military personnel.

Training
I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) — all evidence-based approaches for conditions such as depression and anxiety.
My training also extends to complex trauma, with influences from experts like Bessel Van Der Kolk, Carl Jung, Janina Fisher and Jeffrey Young. This has shaped my work with trauma survivors, with a focus on healing fragmented parts of the self through Schema Therapy and Internal Family Systems.
In addition, my work with PTSD has led to training in specialised trauma treatments like Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), Prolonged Exposure, and Cognitive Processing Therapy, all treatments recommended by Australia’s National Centre for Excellence in Post-Traumatic Mental Health.

My Approach
My approach is warm and compassionate, with an emphasis on creating a genuine relationship with each person. I believe in focusing on your strengths, recognising the resilience and resourcefulness you bring to overcome challenges.
There’s no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to therapy. Together, we’ll explore your unique situation, clarify your goals, and decide on the therapy or combination of therapies that feels right for you. Your treatment plan will always be based on current research, my own clinical experience, but most importantly, your needs and preferences.
